Skanpage cannot use Document Feeder (HP LaserJet)

Hi everyone,

I’m new to Manjaro and for now I like it really very much. However, there’s one thing that annoys me: I cannot use the automatic document feeder (ADF) of my HP Color LaserJet MFP M153fw with skanpage. When I do the scanner starts working, the document gets pulled through but then skanpage gives the error message “Feeder out of documents” (which I guess is OK after the last page), and it shows “This Document contains no images”. The scanner remains in status “busy”.
I installed KDE Neon in a VM and there everything works fine, also in Kubuntu.
I found some topics about driver issues with HP, but I don’t know if that applies here, because scanning with flatbed works, so I wouldn’t think of a driver fault.
Maybe someone can give me at least a hint?
Thank you.

Versions: Skanpage 24.08.1
hplip 3.24.4-2

Hi Werner. Welcome to Manjaro! I have never used a printer on any Linux machine, so cannot help you unfortunately. The only thing I would suggest is that you try different kernels; however that is a long shot. I hope you find a solution to you challenge, as Manjaro is generally a great OS. More power to you. R

Hi, i know this problem skanpage and skanlite cant use the document feeder why i dont know in the past it was working.

Now i use simple scan it can use the document feeder.
Or Naps2 i find it on the internet also it is in AUR.

Sadly Simple Scan doesn’t work here either. Same error “scanning failed” and “document feeder empty”. :unamused:
Thank you anyway!

did you install the hplip package.
And then when you use your scanner program the hplip package installs some software, without it it doesnt work. so was that in my case.

Yes, hplip is installed. However, I can not remember it installed anything when I started Skanpage.

The solution was to install sane-airscan. After reloading and choosing this backend everything worked fine.
