Hello, you could have similar (or even better) functionality with Redshift and Redshifter (AUR). On my laptop, I don’t use anymore my function keys. Advantage of Redshifter is that it also controls the plugged in external screens. With these apps, you can control the brightness and also the temperature of your screen. You can then also set keybindings for a specific temperature/brightness or to go up/down 1 step. I continuously adapt my screen to the ambient light and go 100% bright and 0% blue light filter as soon as I view photos and these apps makes it so quick and convenient.
