Shutdown doesn't work properly after update

Hi, I’m using Manjaro KDE, and after an update, I started having issues when I press shutdown.

The background disappears and the icons vanish (like the normal process), but then it gets stuck, and I can still see and move my mouse cursor.

When I switch to TTY, I see a loop of errors:

If I return to the desktop (no background and only my moouse cursor), I can open a terminal using my shortcuts, and if I type shutdown now, my laptop shuts down properly. This is my workaround for now.

Any help to solve this? If you need more information, just let me know.

Thanks!

If this is really hardware error - then no

What jumps right at me is

mce: Hardware Error: PROCESSOR 0
mce: Hardware Error: CPU 25

Whether this is on the CPU directly or it is memory related to a specific task I don’t know.

I would boot a live ISO and run extended memory test on the system.

Assuming this is not a hardware error, which kernel version are you using? I think I saw a similar set of errors on the 6.11 release. Could you try with 6.6 LTS and see if it makes a difference?

Hi @linux-aarhus and @wpkg, thanks for your replies.

I don’t know if the problem is hardware-related because if I shut down directly from the terminal, it works perfectly. However, if I use the icon in the start menu, that’s where the problem appears. So I’m not sure if there’s an issue with the shutdown function in the start menu or something else.

@wpkg I’m using Linux 6.6.52-1 LTS, and this problem started yesterday after I updated the system. Always I’m in LTS

It’s worth trying linux61. I had to use this for a while when an update to linux66 caused issues.

If your system is on KDE6.1.5 now it sounds like this known issue (workaround in link):

Thanks @BG405 and @fumum_vendidi for your replies.

The link helped me and solved the problem. I selected empty session and now the buttons works perfectly
