Seeking help setting up RTX 3060 mobile (hybrid)

Hi there!

I am still rather new to Manjaro and am having issues getting my mobile dedicated GPU (RTX 3060 mobile) to run. Googling solutions led me several times to this forum but all of the ideas I found did not help me get any further.

Situation: I am trying to run a fully updated Manjaro with GDM 40.2 and X11 on my ASUS Zephyrus G15 GA503, 2021 model. Almost everything seems to work except:

Problem: I cannot get Manjaro or any piece of software on it to find my RTX 3060 mobile. It runs well on the AMD integrated graphics, but none of the hardware tools find my dGPU. The card works well under Windows 10.

I tried:

  • installing via mhwd -a pci nonfree 0300 (only installs AMD iGPU drivers)
  • Installing Nvidia standalone drivers (did not find hardware)
  • Installing Nvidia drivers from nvidia(dot)com (did not find hardware)
  • Installing Nvidia-AMD-hybrid-prime drivers (did not find hardware)
  • Using either USB-C or HDMI outputs. Only HDMI works. USB-C would be the one to be used with the dGPU

Since many people have issues with this kind of hardware and there are many discussions around it, I tried solving by myself - sadly, with no success. If the card would just show up! Thank you for your help!

Ok - don’t mind me. I fixed my own error and it’s slightly embarrassing: the dGPU only powers up when connected to the beefy power supply, not when connected through USB C power delivery. Thus, I can now see the card in the system. I’ll leave the thread open to say: if another person is experiencing this problem: be sure to use the strong power supply.

Yup, works like a charm. :man_facepalming:
