SDDM Greeter not showing when not charging

Booting is stuck at graphical interface target but sddm greeter not showing. Most of time (not always) it is solved by connecting power cable, pressing power button for ~8 secs and then pressing it again.

I have confirmed with asus, the UEFI version also latest

It might be because your laptop can’t supply enough power at bootup for the graphics card :thinking:

Does it stay working, when you unplug the charger when booted up properly?

For people to know for sure what the problem is, they would need to investigate the logs of your previous boot.
(the boot that got stuck when you tried to boot without charger plugged-in)

  • for example logs of previous boot:
    journalctl --no-pager --boot=-1 | xclip
    
    Then paste the clipboard in your a reply between code-blocks.

Looks like a normal bootup, no errors i could detect that would prevent sddm to start IMHO :woman_shrugging:

It seemingly even loads the gfx drivers for both your iGPU and nVidea without errors.

Do you happen to have multiple Video out ports?
Maybe the greeter is displayed on the nVidia output port instead?
I have no idea how laptops with this kind of dual GFX work TBH :woman_shrugging:

Someone from the discord server helped me point the issue. He said

The power resource initialization code is reading a MMIO address in a loop (im assuming its waiting for the device to power on)
