Today I reinstalled Manjaro, it’s a fresh download and install and up to date, the pc is brand new, every part of it. Whenever the system locks (and after a few minutes) it completely freezes with a black screen, I can’t do anything apart from rebooting the whole pc. I did change the SDDM and splash screen if that helps, is there any way I can find any logs of why it freezes? Or is it known in what scenarios the PC could freeze after locking? (sorry if there’s a lack of info, I just don’t know what to look for)
Welcome to the forum… as a new forum user, please take some time to familiarise yourself with Forum requirements; in particular, the many ways to use the forum to your benefit:
The Update Announcements should be checked frequently for important update related information.
These announcements contain a Known Issues and Solutions section and should generally be checked before posting a request for support.
Now with your problem, you state that you did change the SDDM and Splash screen.
To look at your logs, you can open Konsole CtrlAltT and enter journalctl -p3 -xb
If you paste any content here you must use ‘backticks’ to mark your code…
Backticks ``` are like an apostrophe, find them on the <kbd>~</kbd> ~ key).
So initially, I would like to reset the system to the way it was before installing the SDDM and splash screen.
Also, I would like to know if you enabled snapshots. My system has Timeshift set up to take HOURLY snapshots… so often, if something is wrong and I’m in a hurry and can’t be bothered to figure it out, I will just restore a snapshot.
This is a great trick - imagine if you mess with SDDM and can’t log in at all? You can run Timeshift also from a USB session.
One way to possibly ‘refresh’ to remove the black screen would be to switch to another TTY and back again:
CtrlAlt5 then CtrlAlt1
To look at your logs, you can open Konsole CtrlAltT and enter
journalctl -p3 -xb

That’s all I’m getting from that command.

I did, I just put the ones that came with KDE now, maybe that helps with the freezing.

I tried that when it happened but it didn’t do anything, it was completely frozen, like the monitor wasn’t getting any signal or something.
Now I also got another problem which is that when I put my monitor in anything above 120hz it starts turning black anytime I click on something or move the mouse. Yesterday it was working normally with 144hz and in windows I had 180hz on.

Nvm, I fixed it by downgrading to 6.6 kernel instead of 6.11, I don’t know about the locking yet though.
That’s hardly a downgrade.
I always maintain one LTS kernel, and install/run the current kernels as they come along.
My previous build (which expired about 2 years ago) would often have weird issues with some kernels, and I spent most of my time running the LTS kernel until my newer build.
Anyway, I hope you survive your next lock

It seems to have been just that, I left it locked for a while and so far it hasn’t freeze like before, thanks for the help.
