Unrelated to your current problem but:
Of your 4GB RAM, you’re losing 760 MB to your video display and have only 3230 MB left which is 72.8% full without loading any applications, so look around for a second-hand 8 GB RAM DIMM for your machine. (or 4GB if you’re really cash-strapped: 20€ will get you at least double of what you have now)
