Scaling in XFCE

I have a question about the new display scaling on high resolution monitors in XFCE.

If I change the scaling from, say, 1 to 1.5, everything shrinks, which is the opposite of what I expected. Am I just missing something obvious? Does scaling mean something completely different here?

Use numbers between 0 and 1 in order to increase the size of display elements. If I’m not mistaken, your scaling factor 1.5 should be equal to a scaling factor of 1 / 1.5 = 0.67 in this context.

Mathematically, “scaling” can be both X * Y and X / Y, so I guess it really depends on what is meant by scaling and how it is implemented.

I think one of the reasons I’m confused is that XFCE seems to have two scaling features. One is in the display settings (as discussed in this thread). The other is in the “Appearance” settings, which has a “Window Scaling” feature. The Display setting scaling seems to work in an opposite fashion from the Appearance setting feature. I’m therefore very confused.
