SbK LXQt 21.3.7 release

I am happy to announce the release of SbK LXQt 21.3.7.

The SpinsbyKilz.com watermark is not present on the installed system.

This is the first series that uses the KoraSpin icons. They are forked from the Kora Icon set.

An update to 21.3.7 happened today, 8/16/22. Since the release series only had lxqt done I rebuilt the isos to 21.3.7. They were just re-uploaded. The download links now point to the new iso’s. If you already installed 21.3.6 you dont need to reinstall, just update it.

Both iso’s in this release include:

  1. The 5.15.60 LTS kernel.
  2. The New KoraSpin-Turquoise4 icon theme with light and dark versions of the control icons. They are part of the KoraSpin-21.3.6 package.
  3. The new SpinThemeDarkTurquoise4 matching Gtk and Kvantum themes in one package was used.
  4. The new Usplash-21.3.6 desktop wallpapers. One of them is the background for the grub, desktop, and login screen backgrounds.
  5. The iso’s are up to date as of 8/13/2022.
  6. An optional Firefox theme, SbK Dark Turquoise4, that matches the color scheme, is available at https://spins.tuxfamily.org/ffthemes.html. Just click on the image in Firefox to install it.

Both iso’s also contain the standard SbK features.

  1. The latest LTS kernel.
  2. A Manjaro stable install that is also AUR compatible with a lot of packages used to build packages installed…
  3. It is multiarch by default to make running wine games and other 32bit software you may run easier.
  4. The Spins by Kilz signed repository is enabled for SbK project packages.
  5. A signed iso. For information on checking signed iso’s visit https://spins.tuxfamily.org/check.html
  6. Bloatware has been removed (HP printer software and others).
  7. Flat packs and snaps are not installed. The back ends are also not installed but can be installed by the user.
  8. All SbK iso’s contain Manjaro Architect script in case you want to do a custom install. Sadly to get any SbK packages like themes, icons, and other goodies you will have to add the SbK http://spins.tuxfamily.org/repo.html after install.
  9. Timeshift autosnap installed. It takes a snapshot before upgrading so any bad upgrades can be easily reversed.
  10. A basic Conky with a color theme that matches the desktop themes.

A full and very minimal iso can be found here.

As always comments, suggestions, requests are always welcome, just post below.

Thanks for your incredible output on all these spins, Jim.

Just a hint: the link “full and very minimal iso can be found here” is not correct.

And a suggestion: would be good to get an overview of the installed components inside the spin, e.g. if your using tint or lxqt-panel as panel system and such things.

Thanks for pointing out the link was wrong, its fixed now. I will have to think about which components to include. Perhaps a link to the package list that is uploaded with each release will work, they show what packages are included, not sure at this point.

I’ve just installed the LXQt spin “minimal” based on your fixed link, thanks. New icons and artwork are amazing!

I see now the panel is indeed LXQT-panel and not tint2 as it looked like from the screenshots.

One error though: I’ve installed it inside an ORACLE VirtualBox. Display type is, as usual, VMSVGA.

But only this new installation of 21.3.7 LXQt is not remembering the screen resolution of 2560x1440.
(Compositor is enabled and set to X-Render.)

It used to work before; is this an error? Something I can look up for you in order to fix or do you have an idea about a workaround?

Regards
Prof. P

I am pretty sure its because its running in a virtualbox. You might want to try this fix.
