I was just trying to save a session upon logout in XCFE, and for some reason the option does not appear anymore. If I open xfce4-session-settings, the tick box for “Prompt on logout” is marked. But this is what I see when I logout…
Any help would be appreciated!
This is not where that choice is made.
Right above that option is another checkbox, labelled “Automatically save session on logout”
This is where that choice is made.
Not on the logout prompt.
Fair enough. But I swore that there used to be a tick box so you could do it right from the logout prompt. Am I wrong about that?

No, you are right.
I actually noticed it right now for the first time - it’s not a feature I use, so I guess I just looked right past it.
I’m on Mint Xfce (so: a slightly older version of Xfce)
and I do see that checkbox on the logout prompt, where you expected it to be.
On Xfce in my Manjaro VM it is indeed not there.

Just thought I’d drop this by — not seeing the checkbox here, using:
Desktop: Xfce 4.18.1 tk: Gtk 3.24.33 info: xfce4-panel wm: xfwm 4.18.0
vt: 7 dm: LightDM 1.30.0 Distro: Linux Mint 21.3 Virginia
base: Ubuntu 22.04 jammy
on this ancient machine.
This is what I’m currently on:
Desktop: Xfce v: 4.18.1 tk: Gtk v: 3.24.41 wm: xfwm4 v: 4.18.0
with: xfce4-panel tools: light-locker vt: 7 dm: LightDM v: 1.30.0
Distro: Linux Mint 22.1 Xia base: Ubuntu 24.04 noble
There must have been some changes, even though everything besides the different Mint version looks almost the same.
I do have a checkbox there.

xfce4-session-settings
This is what the current page says for xfce4-session-logout
https://docs.xfce.org/xfce/xfce4-session/logout
They have the tick box there. I may file some kind of issue. Thanks for the help!
Don’t be too sure. That page was;

Linux development moves quickly. Well, sometimes.
Filed an issue. Got a response in about 15 min. They removed the checkbox about a year ago and now the autosave setting is the way you preserve your session.

One would think they could have taken the time to remove the accompanying message (about the non-existent option at logout), sometime in that past year.
