[Resolved] After Stable Update, boot goes to black screen

Mod-edit: Formatting

After updating, if I choose the 5.9.16 or 5.10.2 kernels I get a black screen.
If I choose 5.9.1 it boots normally. (Ediited to correct kernel versions.)

On 5.10.2, if I hit Ctrl Alt F2, I get to tty2 and a login prompt.
If I then hit Ctrl Alt F1 I get to tty1, but there is no login prompt; the cursor is sitting there blinking.
Something told me the problem was likely to be the display manager.
The relevant portion of ‘journalctl -b’ on the working system is as follows:

Any help would be appreciated.

$ sudo mhwd-kernel -li
Currently running: 5.9.1-1-rt19-MANJARO (linux59)
The following kernels are installed in your system:

  • linux419
  • linux510
  • linux54
  • linux59
  • linux54-rt
  • linux59-rt

$ sudo mhwd -li

Installed PCI configs:

              NAME               VERSION          FREEDRIVER           TYPE

       video-intel            2017.03.24                true            PCI

Warning: No installed USB configs!

I also have this.

$ pacman -Q | grep -u nvid
mhwd-nvidia 455.45.01-3
mhwd-nvidia-304xx 1:304.137-1
mhwd-nvidia-340xx 340.108-1
mhwd-nvidia-390xx 390.138-1

I have no idea why those are installed. Let me see why to see if it’s the same issue everybody else is having.

@jmac, these are only databank files for the mhwd tool, keep them, this should be this way.

Ah, OK thanks.

This morning it’s working. No idea why.

edit: And it’s not working again now.

Hey, I just fixed a very similar issue to yours. mhwd -li gave the same output as you, but I tried doing sudo mhwd -a pci nonfree 0300 anyways and it started working after a reboot. Maybe you could give that a shot.

Thank you so much @StealthBadger747 !! That did the trick!
