Regular core dumps of xfce4-panel when screensaver activates

Every time my xfce4-screensaver activates, when I come back to my computer and unlock it, my panels have all disappeared.

I can see the core dumps which match up pretty well to the time the screensaver would have kicked in.

This has been happening for a few months now; I figured it would get sorted up buy an update at some point, but that hasn’t happened.

Could you try creating a new temporary user profile; wait for the same scenario to occur and see if this persists. If it doesn’t, then it might be worthwhile creating a new permanent profile for daily use.

If it does persist, then others may be able to help further. :person_shrugging:

Hello,
I just checked and I also get a coredump for xfcepanel but one every day, when I shutdown the system ! Otherwise, no problem when the screen saver activates.

Strange, I will look at that.

I left the terminal window that I restarted the panel in open and I have the following messages:

This seems to be indicating an issue with my Workspace Switcher. I’ve removed and re-added it and switched from image to button mode.

I would rather restart my panel every time I unlock my screen than go through all the hassle of re-creating my profile. I have a complex setup that has taken years to get configured.

OK, I’ve done some isolation testing, and it’s definitely the Miniature View setting on the Workspace Switcher that causes the crash. I assume it’s trying to replace the images with the blank screen for some reason.

I’ve raised an upstream issue, since this appears to be entirely XFCE based: panel core dumps when Workspace Switcher is using Miniature View appearance. (#806) · Issues · Xfce / xfce4-panel · GitLab

I can understand that. However, did you create a new user profile to test that the errors still persists, as suggested?

This could help to isolate the problem. However, if you won’t even do that, I’ll offer no more suggestions, and simply wish you well. Cheers.
