Rednotebook stopped launching

I was using it yesterday to update my weekly journal. I believe I did a very minor system update yesterday - one package? - possibly after I’d been using rednotebook. Memory hazy.

Today rednotebook simply won’t launch: timer goes round for a bit, then vanishes and nothing further happens.

Terminal gives this, which I don’t understand and thus this post for help:

   ~  rednotebook  ✔

It appears the upstream package has not been updated yet

Arch Linux - Package Search

From the application webpage https://rednotebook.app it seems the version is 2.39 with updated dependency on GIRepository 3.0.

As the maintainer has already been made aware - there is nothing to do but wait.

Until the package is updated upstream - an alternative is to build the rednotebook-git - which will provide a working rednotebook version 2.39.

Thank you! Quite a relief actually that for once it’s not a problem at my end!

Not sure about building it from rednotebook-git. Would I have to uninstall current non-working version first? Also, I notice there’s a Flatpak version available. Might it be safer (and easier!) to install that? Again, could that be installed alongside current installed version? (Instinct and experience tells me not a good idea, but I’m really out of my depth on such matters.) Although all my content is safe in Dropbox (as far as anything’s safe in Dropbox!), I prefer not to lose my settings etc.

simply run - it will remove the dysfunctional version, build and install a functional version

pamac build rednotebook-git
