Realtime Kernel 5.11 Ethernet (8168) Not Working

Greetings All,

I use the “linux511-rt” kernel for audio work. Since last update, I had nVidia problems which where solved due to an outdated module being updated. I think something similar may have happened to the network driver. This is not happening on the 5.10 LTS kernel. Perhaps a RT kernel module update for network cards is at hand. Any help with this is appreciated.

Cheers,

5.11 is EOL as in not existing - I suggest you use linux510-rt

Current stable kernel is 5.13 and the mainline is 5.14 (kernel.org) none of which has yet been built as rt.

Can you post
inxi -Fza
on console ?

I uninstalled 5.11-rt and re-installed 5.10-rt.
I had to re-install 5.10-rt because it has disappeared from my grub menu at boot. It seems I can’t install both 5.10LTS and 5.10-rt at the same time. I’m using 5.10LTS for the time being. I uninstalled 5.10-rt and re-installed 5.10LTS yet again, because it keeps disappearing from my boot menu everytime I install 5.10-rt.

Has anyone been able to install both 5.10LTS and 5.10-rt together?

Side note: I’m no longer using 5.11-rt and trying to switch to 5.10-rt

5.10 rt is also LTS - but only available on Manjaro - you cannot have both 5.10 and 5.10-rt

I have both kernels v5.10.53-1 and v5.10.52-rt47 after installing updates earlier today
update-grub confirmed all 3 installed kernels were detected and updated

$ sudo grep Kernel /boot/grub/grub.cfg | grep -v fallback | cut -d "'" -f2
Manjaro Linux (Kernel: 5.12.19-1-MANJARO x64)
Manjaro Linux (Kernel: 5.10.53-1-MANJARO x64)
Manjaro Linux (Kernel: 5.10.52-rt47-2-MANJARO x64)

I’m only getting “5.10.47_rt46-1” available for installing.
I also have “5.10.52-1” currently installed. I don’t have the same kernels you have available.
Perhaps my 5.10 kernels don’t play well together.
I would like to install a LTS RT kernel along side the normal kernel if possible.

I have different package versions from stable-staging branch

Branch compare is showing n/a for linux510-rt packages, so I expect Manjaro team will push a new RT kernel to stable branch very soon

If you need an RT kernel now you could switch to stable-staging branch

But if you are not using a heavy workload for audio production you might also want to try using the standard kernel with threaded IRQs
(check rtirq is installed and add boot option threadirqs to GRUB)

IMO the standard kernel compared to rt kernel goes to at least 10.7

After today’s update, 511-rt is out of commission and 510 kernels have been updated to latest stable branch versions. I now have the new versions installed and both 510 and 510-rt are running like champs. Perhaps the conversation sparked the minor fixes. Thanks to all who helped.
