Re-entering network password, still no connection

I did a fresh install of the current Manjaro Linux (more exact specs at the bottom).

The network manager detects all networks. But when I want to connect to wifi, after entering the correct password, the network manager doesn’t connect. After a short while he keeps asking for the password, and this goes without success. It seems he doesn’t accept my password.

I have no problems connecting with a hotspot, even though the network manager also asks for the password but here he accepts it.

Does anybody know a solution?

Still I have no connection. I suppose it has to do with the current kernel. 5.8.18.

Tried different kernels (4.4 and 4.19 and 5.4 and 5.9). The problem with the network manager persists. I cannot use wlan with my wlan card Qualcomm Atheros QCA937. Strange that there seems no solution…

I assume you already tried to delete your saved connection then reconnect to create a new one.

My bad, not enough infos in the last journal. I can see once Activation: (wifi) association took too long but not why.

Lets try this:

Disconnect from Internet
Close any running application to minimize the logging
Run $ journalctl -p 4 -f
-p 4 limits the journal to priority level 4 (warning) and up
-f follows the log in real time
Connect to Internet, wait for it to fail (second time asking for pwd)
Ctrl+C to stop following the journal

Can it be that the problem lies between the kernel and the router? - Linux Mint 18.3 with Kernel 4.4.0 connects with no problem. Using Linux Mint 20.03 with a 5.4 Kernel gave me the same problem as with the current Manjaro installation. And using the current Manjaro installation with other routers worked like a charm.

Well you can, because

So you only have problem connecting to your router right? looking back at everyting you reported, your router is becoming more and more suspicious.

Were you able to successfully connect to your router (the one which now fails) from the live session when you installed Manjaro?

The journal still shows nothing else than Activation: (wifi) association took too long, then asking for new secrets.

Could you please try this:

$ sudo systemctl restart wpa_supplicant
connect to your router, wait for failure
$ systemctl status wpa_supplicant and post the output (edit out your router MAC address and SSID if necessary)

So far I see nothing wrong on the computer side. Could be your router’s firmware / config.

I would try:

Checking if there are any file under /etc/NetworkManager/conf.d/ and what they do;
Restarting your router (duh… you probably did already )
Updating your router’s firmware;
Changing your router’s “Wireless Mode” (try “mixed”);
Disabling IPv6 in your connection settings.

You are right. (Unless I use kernel 4.4.0-34-generic. With that or older kernels my router connects perfectly.)

This I couldn’t find in the router’s configuration

Alright. Now we see: auth_failures=1 duration=10 reason=CONN_FAILED.
I wonder why it didn’t show up in the journal post#5, I guess -p 4 was too restrictive.

I’m still curious about that.

Also did you try to connect to your router through Ethernet?

No, Manjaro live session connection to my router did not succeed. It worked great with a Linux Mint 18.3 Live session though (Kernel 4.4.0).

I bought a cable now and it connects to my router like a charm. - So … I can either use a cable, a hotspot or try to find Manjaro with an older kernel. These options should be enough by now.
