Razer Blade Pro 17 Stuck in a sleep-loop

Hi!

I recently installed Manjaro Gnome, I’m having problem with my laptop being stuck in a loop after I closed and reopened the lid. I it would wake up and then after around 10-20s go to sleep again. I tried logging in, and it worked fine, so I’m not getting stuck anywhere, as far as I tested.

Looking through the logs, I noticed problems with ACPI:

Oct 07 23:23:00 bladepro17 kernel: ACPI Error: No handler for Region [VRTC] (0000000064961332) [SystemCMOS] (20200528/evregion-127)
Oct 07 23:23:00 bladepro17 kernel: ACPI Error: Region SystemCMOS (ID=5) has no handler (20200528/exfldio-261)
Oct 07 23:23:00 bladepro17 kernel: ACPI Error: Aborting method \_SB.PCI0.LPCB.EC0.RTEC due to previous error (AE_NOT_EXIST) (20200528/psparse-529)
Oct 07 23:23:00 bladepro17 kernel: ACPI Error: Aborting method \RWAK due to previous error (AE_NOT_EXIST) (20200528/psparse-529)
Oct 07 23:23:00 bladepro17 kernel: ACPI Error: Aborting method \_WAK due to previous error (AE_NOT_EXIST) (20200528/psparse-529)
Oct 07 23:23:00 bladepro17 kernel: ACPI Error: AE_NOT_EXIST, While executing method \_WAK (20200528/hwesleep-47)
Oct 07 23:23:00 bladepro17 kernel: ACPI: EC: interrupt unblocked
Oct 07 23:23:00 bladepro17 kernel: ACPI: EC: event unblocked
Oct 07 23:23:00 bladepro17 kernel: nvme nvme0: Shutdown timeout set to 8 seconds
Oct 07 23:23:00 bladepro17 kernel: nvme nvme1: Shutdown timeout set to 10 seconds

which are immediately followed by nvme1 which has OS and boot partitions having a shutdown timer set. It is the first moment in the logs this happens.

I tried looking for solutions on this forum (“Razer 15 Goes to sleep whenever it is plugged in or unplugged”), but with no luck.

Lastly, I have tested and got the same exact issue on:

  • Manjaro KDE
  • Manjaro Xfce
  • Ubuntu 20.04
  • Kubuntu 20.04
  • Linux Mint 20

so I believe the problems lies somewhere in the kernel, however I also tried around 5 of those (didn’t keep track of them though) and the problem persisted.

Does anyone has ideas how to solve the problem, or how to provide better information on it?

Thanks!

As you seem to be having ACPI issues, have you tried sticking to one kernel (5.8 is fine) and trying out different kernel command line parameters for ACPI?

I.E.:

force -- enable ACPI if default was off
on -- enable ACPI but allow fallback to DT [arm64]
off -- disable ACPI if default was on
noirq -- do not use ACPI for IRQ routing
strict -- Be less tolerant of platforms that are not
        strictly ACPI specification compliant.
rsdt -- prefer RSDT over (default) XSDT
copy_dsdt -- copy DSDT to memory
For ARM64, ONLY "acpi=off", "acpi=on" or "acpi=force"
are available

See also Documentation/power/runtime_pm.rst, pci=noacpi

Hi,

Thank you for such a fast response.
I have tried acpi options with following results:

  • on - sleep-loop
  • force - sleep-loop
  • off - touchpad stopped working
  • noirq - touchpad stopped working
  • copy_dsdt - sleep-loop
  • pci=noacpi - touchpad stopped working

However, I decided to approach a problem differently and force Manjaro to always hibernate instead of suspending.

It doesn’t really solve the issue, but skips it, and everything works!

The easiest way to do, is to download the power manager for xfce4, and set close-lid and suspend actions to hibernate.

Thanks! No, I spent some time on Ubuntu and Manjaro KDE before  This was on an older laptop without GPU though, so not as many things could break.

Is there a way of re-editing the solution. I decided to try to reenable the sleep, but disable “hybrid sleep” and “hibernate after sleep”, and everything works perfectly now! Wanted to add it as a second thing to try, if someone runs into such a problem in the future.

Add the following kernel param:

button.lid_init_state=open

to fix the suspend-resume-loop after closing the lid the first time after boot.
I have same problem and this fixed it.

Thank you!
This actually solves the problem, instead of going around it!
