Questions about trying out unified kernel image

I have updated my hardware and now run UEFI.
Since I still have an empty partition, I am thinking about playing with unified kernel images.
Does anyone have experience with this?
Is it possible to try it out without jeopardizing the existing system (grub)?
What are the disadvantages (is it possible to check/edit the kernel parameters at startup like with grub)?

Edit: just googled a little bit…so you can’t edit the parameters at boot time, but can i have multiple images with different parameters?

Edit: So that the topic has at least some benefit:
Multiple UKIs with mkinitcpio?
Unified kernel image

Did you actually search the forum before posting?

The dead easy method is to use sbctl to create the unified kernels.

You can use several bundle definitions reading the kernel command line from different files.

sbctl can also sign the unified kernels - making it possible to make use of Secure Boot.
