Hi everyone, since this is something external to Manjaro and more related to the software and its behavior within the system, I’ll just highlight the details.
I’ve noticed that, on different Manjaro installations or updates, Firefox usually comes installed by default, and I use it as my default browser; it’s very convenient and useful for my needs.
I install Brave just in case for websites that require a Chrome-based browser, but here’s the interesting part.
When you install or update Brave, it automatically removes Firefox as the default browser, removes it from the taskbar, and pins Brave. It also does the same thing in the favorites menu, for example, in Plasma.
In my opinion, it’s a bit invasive how Brave does this every time, automatically setting itself as the default browser without any action authorized by the user.

I’ve moved this to Support → Software and Applications
as this is actually a technical question in a sense. Plus, Brave is in the repos.
I’ve had issues in the past with browsers setting preferences without consent. Not with Linux, though. This is a reminder of my time, long ago, with Windows and the programs installed there.
It is certainly a concern when this sort of thing affects Linux users’ specified settings.
I would take this up with the Brave browser developers.

When you sync a web browser package, some will assume you want the browser to be default.
That may or may not be the case, but the assumption would mostly be correct.
As developer I have often switched between primary web browsers.
Long time ago I created a script to facilitate the switching.

This happens to me everytime wheni install a different browser (Chrome, Edge etc.). I don’t think it’s brave specific.
It can be reverted pretty easy by changing the icon back on Taskbar and set Firefox as default browser again. Shouldn’t be a big deal.
I agree.
Vivaldi doesn’t have that issue; in fact, it doesn’t have any major issues at all, in my experience.

It’s not a question of being a problem, but rather of commenting on how this happens every time, and it’s worth remembering that Brave and Chrome-based updates are much more constant and varied than Firefox, doing this as often as every 2 or 3 weeks.
If this annoys you, install Microsoft Edge browser. It is doing an update almost every day
I dare say every Chromium (not Chrome)-based browser has a higher frequency of updates than Firefox. Each have both the core Chromium updates to deal with as well as their own brand-specific features and customisations.
