Pulseaudio airplay not working since stable update 2020-11-04

Since the stable update 2020-11-04 there’s no airplay / RAOP sink available anymore. It might have to do with the pulseaudio upgrade to v13.99.3 that was included in that update, although on gitlab (Regression: Apple airplay device not detected anymore since 13.99.3 (#1033) · Issues · PulseAudio / pulseaudio · GitLab) I was told there weren’t any major changes to RAOP. I didn’t change any settings.

Any hints as to what to look into? Thanks!

!!ALSA/HDA dmesg
!!--------------

That is an impressive amount of output.

I had some pulseaudio issues too which were resolved with:

sudo systemctl disable --now pipewire.socket
sudo systemctl disable --now pipewire.service
systemctl --user restart pulseaudio.service

Cant hurt to try…

Yeah, I was kinda surprised too…

I tried your suggestions with some interesting results:

sudo systemctl disable --now pipewire.socket

Result: Failed to disable unit: Unit file pipewire.socket does not exist

sudo systemctl disable --now pipewire.service

Result: Failed to disable unit: Unit file pipewire.service does not exist

systemctl --user restart pulseaudio.service

Result: no effect

But I just discovered that I can’t kill the gdm process (see the first line of the output I posted) - output is: operation not permitted

Now I don’t know what that means, but could there be something wrong?

The problem is fixed. I was lacking the package pulseaudio-rtp which adds RAOP support. Since installing it, it works again.

The weird thing is, I just did an update of the packages I had before when it had worked flawlessly. I never needed pulseaudio-rtp before. @philm, was there maybe a packaging mistake so the upgrade process didn’t notice there was a separate package for RAOP support?

In any case, I’m happy it is working again

The package list for stable update 2020-11-04 shows that ‘pulseaudio-rtp’ is a new package

pulseaudio-rtp - 13.99.3-1

and there was probably a notification during the update process advising PulseAudio had new optional dependencies

PulseAudio v13.99 is based on the development version of PulseAudio because PulseAudio v14.0 is still not ready for release. PulseAudio 14.0 draft release notes suggest there is a new feature to automatically reconnect an RAOP sink

It’s quite probable that I missed out on a notification. I couldn’t tell now.

Also thanks for the info, the new feature seems a good idea to me
