Prusa-slicer version question

Hi toghether,

I could not find a solution or answer for my problem, so hopefully anyone can make it clear to me

I installed prusa-slicer via aur extra some time ago. It installed 2.8.1-2 back then. In the end of 2024 prusa-slicer 2.9 was released and I saw, that the aur extra already got it: Arch Linux - prusa-slicer 2.9.0-1 (x86_64)

As I do not see the update (also yay does not show the update to me) I am a little confused. Can anyone explain to me why the update does not show up?

Thanks for any hints in advance and kind regards!
Daniel

The link you gave is an Arch package;
it’s not from the AUR.

prusa-slicer is available in the official Manjaro repositories.

pacman -Ss prusa-slicer
extra/prusa-slicer 2.8.1-2
G-code generator for 3D printers (Prusa fork of Slic3r)

These are the versions of prusa-slicer currently available in all branches; I’m uncertain when v2.9.0 will reach Stable, but I imagine it won’t be too long:

Branch Version
stable 2.8.1-2
testing 2.9.0-1
unstable 2.9.0-1

I suggest you remove any version you currently have installed, and install the package from the official repository:

sudo pacman -S prusa-slicer

Installing from the official repository will ensure that the package is updated as needed.

Please note that use of the AUR is officially not supported by Manjaro (or Arch). For those who insist on using AUR packages, switching to the Unstable branch is generally suggested:

Probably because Manjaro takes the ARCH packages and first puts them in the unstable and then the testing branch - later they become available in the stable branch.

It just needs some waiting time - or a change to the testing or unstable branch of Manjaro, I guess.

Thanks for your clarification, I think interpreted some things the wrong way, my installation is from the official “extra” and not the aur “extra”, so my installation is the official one.

To use prusa-slicer 2.9 in the meantime I installed it via flatpak. I will just wait until it hits stable.

So thanks again for your time and effort and the very informative answer!

Kind regards and greetings,
Daniel

It’s an easy mistake.

If you don’t see the ‘https://aur’ before ‘.archlinux.org’ in the URL you can be reasonably assured that a given package doesn’t originate from the AUR.

Seems fair.

You can use this link if you need to check the status of prusa-slicer:
