If i try to open it, it doesn’t. I tried to update the keyrings, don’t know. And i tried something with python3.13 another user helped years ago after an update. But i could’nt get it working again.
Should i try to rebuild it? And how do i rebuild something that depends on python? Sorry, i can’t help with the error messages or something because i won’t use my computer without the vpn.
Thats a relief. Sorry for the nuisance. I don’t normally pirate all stuff, it was the one time i thought i could enable me and my friend a nice evening. But i would love to support the creators.
Quick question: how did you rebuild protonvpn-cli to get it to work again? In my package manager, when I click on “protonvpn-cli 3.13.0-3”, I don’t have the “Build” option. All I have is “Remove”, “Details”, “Dependencies” and “Files”.
I have “protonvpn-cli 3.13.0-3” version. After system update, protonvpn-cli doesn’t work!
As much as I know, in this particular case, the problem seems to be related to python update from python3.12 to python3.13.
As much as I understand, protonvpn-cli is coded to use python3.12, but after the system update and installation of python3.13, when I launch protonvpn-cli, the system imposes protonvpn-cli to use python3.13, instead of python3.12. Thus, protonvpn-cli doesn’t even launch! Nothing happens!
I installed this protonvpn-cli package about 2 years ago or so. The same package is no longer available to reinstall. I don’t want to use another version. I want to stick to this version of protonvpn-cli that I have. And I don’t want to switch to Flatpak version of protonvpn.
I’m not super familiar with the graphical installer - but you could likely remove it and add it again afterwards.
Or use yay to deal with AUR packages …
Make sure your base system is up to date before you tend to AUR packages.
protonvpn-cli appears to have been removed from the AUR last year. There is a protonvpn-cli-community package, but it is not a long-term solution either. From the package’s GitHub page:
Deprecation notice
Proton VPN is upgrading its OpenVPN infrastructure. This means the legacy OpenVPN configuration will stop working on 31 March 2025. After this date, you’ll need to switch to the official Proton VPN for Linux app, or reconfigure OpenVPN or WireGuard manually.
I fixed the problem. Now “protonvpn-cli 3.13.0-3” is working again.
Here is how I fixed it; there were 4 folders that were created in this directory, /usr/lib/python3.12/site-packages/ when “protonvpn-cli 3.13.0-3” was installed.
I copied all those 4 folders, related to “protonvpn-cli 3.13.0-3” into the new (updated) python folder, /usr/lib/python3.13/site-packages/ And it did the trick!
18:08- In settings I’ve solved a tiny part of the problem: the connection is stable, but I can only see images on the Portugal server, on the others I get a black screen and errors.
