Problems with NVME SSD ? Watchdog 5100 problems

Hi,
i have a big problem with my system. I have manjaro gnome 3.38 for 1 year on my hardware installed and it works fine. The system was installed on a “normal” Sata SSD from samsung. But i want to test manjaro KDE version because Gnome has not enough tweak options for me. So i buy a NVME SX8200 Adata SSD because my Gigabyte X370 AMD K5 Gaming motherboard has one slot for that. So after installing manjaro KDE V 21.01the problem began… Sometimes at the boot i see a notification that the filesystem was checked. But System boots fine. But at the shutdown sometimes the system halts for 2 minutes, shows a watchdog 5100 error and shuts down. but this occures not every time. sometimes it shuts down without this delay.
A first search shows maybe a bios problem, so i flash the newest bios. The problem still exist, so i have no idea whats cause this problem. With the Sata SSD and gnome 3.38 all works fine. But on the NVME with KDE and manjaro V21.01 sometimes not. Checked the NVME → seems ok. Bios ? → works fine with gnome 3.38 and Sata SSD. Also checked that the Gigabyte board has problems with NVME und Sata port 3-> This port is now not used. Maybe someone can see in the attached logs what can cause this problem ?

I hope that someone can help me to find the problem. KDE and Gnome systems have both the same Kernel. The KDE Desktop works fine and i began to tweak the settings to my needs… but the shutdown problem exists and i dont want to work with that as daily driver.

inxi outputs are great for seeing what HW you have, but are not logs.

The next time you have that shutdown delay (and after rebooting), post the output of:

journalctl -b -1

prepend the command with sudo if you haven’t set yourself up as a member of the systemd-journal group.

And don’t forget the blockquotes!

Ups… sorry i posted the inxi twice… now it was journalctl and inxi.

I’d recommend you do a DDG/Google search on “SP5100 TCO timer” and see if there are any remedies you can try.

Hi merlock,
thank you for your tip and time. I do a search before i post my problem here, but there are to many options: a faulty driver ( Kernel ), firmware bug from the mainboard bios etc. So i have the hope that a expert can see in my case were i can start to investigate or easy buy new hardware, for example a new mainboard or another NVME SSD. The gnome 3.38 edition of manjaro ( V 20.1) works without problems on a normal sata ssd. Its my first NVME SSD so i want to be shure that this is not the problem. Are there any options to check the NVME ?

Since this appears to be an issue specific to your hardware, you’ll probably be relegated to trying those steps one-at-a-time to see if you can mitigate the problem.

The only non-hardware specific thing I can recommend you try is to find the kernel modules used for that watchdog, blacklist them, and add nowatchdog to your kernel command-line.

Hi merlock,
today i spend the hole day to find the problem with the NVME. I try to remount the NVMe, reset Bios to default and at the end try Garuda linux ( arch based ). Garuda seems to work, so maybe not a pure hardware problem.
Then reinstall Manjaro KDE ( 21.02 image ) and the problem was there.( watchdog error) . Then installed Manjaro 21.02 image Gnome… and the watchdog problem was gone. I’m amazed that there was a difference and a little bit sad, that i can not use KDE.
