Problem with display after mesa update

Hi there,

Updating following packages causes some weird graphics problems:

 -> llvm: ignoring package upgrade (19.1.7-2 => 20.1.6-3)
 -> llvm-libs: ignoring package upgrade (19.1.7-2 => 20.1.6-3)
 -> mesa: ignoring package upgrade (1:25.0.5-1 => 1:25.1.4-1)
 -> mesa-utils: ignoring package upgrade (9.0.0-5 => 9.0.0-7)

With new packages external monitors stop working and on the built-in laptop screen I can only run some basic apps (like Uxterm for example). Do I have any other options than downgrading these package and ignoring them for update? Will it make any package integrity problems in the future? Maybe trying mesa-git could help?

I’ve already tried to use nvidia proprietary drivers and it works but I won’t detect my dock connected monitor for whatever reason.

I am really no expert on Nvidia; from your hardware info it appears the system is uing the nouveau driver for Nvidia - and I do know this is not optimal for Nvidia Quadro 3xxx.

I would think the video-hybrid-intel-nvidia-prime would be the right choice

You check if this is installed by running

mhwd -li

If the driver is not listed as installed you can install it

sudo mhwd -i pci video-hybrid-intel-nvidia-prime

It is well known - painfully well known - Linux and Nvidia is not a good match - it has been proved over the years.

//EDIT:

As noted below - you experience may vary - just generally speaking.

Have you tried the open source Nvidia drivers?

I think it depends more on the specific hardware. From what I have read, on the Manjaro forums at least, most NVIDIA issues tend to be associated with discrete NVIDIA + integrated CPU graphics. From personal experience, a discrete NVIDIA GPU + an Intel CPU without integrated graphics works fine.
