Problem re-mounting unmounted external SSD

I’m clearly losing my mind. I unmounted an external SSD (SSE10 mounted) and can’t remember how to re-mount it. It is not showing up in Dolphin and I can’t even find my notes on how to do this. Help!

Have you unplugged it and plugged it back in? It should then show up in dolphin.

Yes, I have. That’s how I expected to get it remounted. So I’ve tried several configurations of restarting but to no avail.

Have you tried a different USB port?

Does it show up with lsblk?

No. It should show up as “Easystore.”

lsblk  1 ✘

Actually, now that I look at this a little closer, it might be /sdc1

It probably is, unless you have another 2TB drive that isn’t mounted.

So try this.

sudo mount /dev/sdc1 /mnt
ls /mnt
sudo umount /mnt

Perhaps when it’s mounted to a path that contains “Easystore”, or in dolphin.

You can’t re-mount a external Drive which has no power, because of a clean shutdown.

Sometimes the unmounted drive won’t shutdown, then i have to use the shutdown command below:

USB-Drive Shutdown (Replace X with actually drive label):
udisksctl power-off -b /dev/sdX

In your case it should look like that:
udisksctl power-off -b /dev/sdc1

If the external drive is finally powered down, i just replug the external drive to show up in Dolphin again.

If your SDC1 drive (1,8Tbyte) is really your external drive of course.

the ls /mnt command after the mount command yielded lost+found.
When I tried the power-off command I got error message saying the drive is in use, mounted.

Then unmount it first:

sudo umount /mnt

/sdc1 definitely is the SSD. But when I plug it in the computer sees USB STICK, not Easystore, and when I mount it everything on the disk is hidden, which is a lot. The only thing that show on Dolphin is Lost&Found.

Spoiler alert, you can also open KDE Partition Manager… if the terminal commands confuse you.

Taskbar>system>KDE Partition Manager

From there you see Visual easily your drive and how many partitions it has… and how much space it has.

I hope not, but the label change and the seemingly empty filesystem make me think it’s been formatted.

Did you try to format another drive?

I was thinking the same :frowning:

Ach, Scheisse!!! You are evidently correct. Per Kobald’s suggestion, looking in Partition Manager there is clearly nothing there and the Label has been changed to USB STICK. I did format some flash drives a couple of days ago. I thought I was being so careful, which is why I unmounted the SSD. Obviously should have unplugged it. Manjaro not the problem. Linux not the problem. Hardware not the problem. I’m the GD’ed problem. Thanks for your help.

I have only limited experience with data recovery… but if you only format it without doing anything additional… you may have a chance to restore your files.

If you want to go this way, open another Topic… maybe someone other can you assist with data recovery.

Just don’t do additional writings on your drive.
