Hi, i was trying to install Foxit PDF Reader in Manjaro, i was wondering if someone had a silimilar problem, and how to solve it.
i attach a screenshot of the error message:
I think you installed the wrong package - your yay output says “installing reader”, which is another AUR package. Try yay with foxitreader.
I just tried building foxitreader using pamac build foxitreader and ended up with with the same error as the OP. It looks like the error relates to the gstreamer0.10-base dependency, which is also an AUR package.
There have been recent releases of the software according to the version history: Foxit PDF Reader Version History & Release Notes | Foxit Software, and the AUR package doesn’t seem to have been abandoned as the AUR package maintainer did make a comment a month ago:
Thanks for the reply @scotty65, I guess that my only option is to wait for a fix at the repository of gstreamer.
I aprecciate your help, and time corroborating the bug.
Regards.
Thanks for the reply.
The functionality i use in Foxit is:
Digital Signatures
Draw, Mark, add Comments, and other text features
All this features is in Foxit PDF in windows, and i use it for work and allows me to be productive and save time.
I understand that a common pdf reader is enough for most people, but i use it for work.
Thanks for the reply, i will test it this night, the most important feature i use is digital signatures, that allows me tu sign the PDFs when i finish the revision, marks, draws and comments of the documents.
BTW, i dont have any problem using private software or most common case, pay for it, as long as it’s secure and useful for my work.
Part of the reason for my suggestions was to extract more information from you, as you had thus far not specified anything much beyond reader. I agree, for your purposes something more robust is needed; and likely with editing features also.
I’ll chime in again if I find anything obviously suitable.
In the meantime, are you aware that LibreOffice apparently has PDF signing features? (I wasn’t).
As far as I can tell, the Linux version of FoxitReader hasn’t been updated in a long time. One solution might be to install the Windows version with Wine.
However depending on what you want from Foxit, Evince has support for PDF, PostScript, and some other formats you can fill forms, highlight text, and annotate. Normal text selection. Remembers window size and document zoom.
You can add digital signatures to documents using the corresponding action in the Tools menu.
To be able to sign a document you need to have a proper PKCS signing certificate available on your system. Okular does not have the ability to create such certificates since they need to be issued by certificate authorities to be useful for validation, etc.
We use the Poppler library to handle signing of PDF documents and Poppler is using the NSS library to handle certificates. At the point of writing, Poppler will try to use one of the following NSS certificate stores in order (the first that exists):
Thanks for the reply, not yet gettin into wine/proton, i read something about that, but no time yet to test it.
Right now i’m testin Master PDF.
I appreciate your time and kindness replying.
