Printer recommendation: black/white laser printer

Hi all,

I’m looking for a black/white laser printer that works out of the box with Manjaro. Preferably with network capability and no cloud/account requirement.
I want to replace my Ricoh SP112 as it doesn’t work with Manjaro.

Recommendations are welcome!

I would search for a printer, which is well supported by Linux.

  1. Printer driver delivered by CUPS.
  2. Printer driver by AUR.
  3. Printer driver by manufacturer.

HP laser printers will likely work OOB

CUPS printer list: Printer List | OpenPrinting - The Linux Foundation
Printer driver by manufacturer: search term = “manufacturer printer model linux driver”.

I have a Pantum M6600NW that works like a charm. I searched a long time for it, and it works like a charm. I chose this because it supports IPP and it’s wireless.

Which drivers does it use? I can’t find Pantum drivers on OpenPrinting.org.

It’s IPP, so it didn’t need drivers AFAIK.

There are drivers, for what I don’t know, probably scanning, for it in the AUR:

$ pamac search pantum
pantum_driver 1.1.5-0.1 AUR

…but as you can see, I don’t have any installed. AFAIK this is a driverless printer. Or something.

Edit:

You can find it here:

Nice. Thanks.
And there’s no requirement for a Pantum account or cloud connection or sth?

I don’t have anything like that, nope.

Thanks a lot, I think I have a good basis to go on now!
Pantum looks like a good choice for my needs.

I went for Pantum P2502W. Wireless Printer, Setup in seconds. And the best: it’s already on my desk and printing :+1:.
