Pop-up window to add/remove kernels of Manjaro Settings manager not displaying content properly

Hello!

I’ve had this issue since a while. If you look at the image below, you see that most of the content that window should display is absent. On the print screen, it shows as white, but while I’m using it, it shows the content of the windows behind it. Hovering with the mouse pointer makes the buttons ‘yes’ and so appear.

Is it a local problem on my installation? How to solve this?

Judging by the wayland logo on the windows it has to do something with that but i use X11 so let’s leave this to the wayland experts.

I have checked with my system.

The window displays correct, one possible idea is, it can be caused by your chosen theme.

Summary

I too think it’s something to do with your theme, as mine seems fine as well.

Kind of useless screenshot.

Thank you for your input.

I’m using the Breath global theme, and was using Breath Dark for plasma style. I changed it to Breath, but it didn’t solve this issue.

Try Breeze instead. It’s the upstream default.

Thank you for the suggestion.

I tried Breeze in both Global and Plasma Style (with no restart), but the problem persists. What would be the cause, and how should I solve this?

Below a picture taken from my phone, because the print screen doesn’t capture the problem correctly.

Just for the record, the Plasma style only affects the panels and desktop widgets, not the contents of the application windows. Those are managed via the Application Style section.

Well, the window appears to be fully transparent, which suggests corruption of the video memory buffer.

Does the problem persist after a reboot?

Yes, it does.

Which graphics adapter do you have, and which driver are you using?

lspci | grep -E "VGA|3D"  ✔

And once again, I forgot the inxi!

Here it is :

I would recommend trying the 6.18 kernel instead of the 6.19 kernel. 6.18 is an LTS kernel, and it is possible that 6.19 has a bug in its amdgpu driver. :man_shrugging:

Thank you for the recommendation. I tried 6.18, and I am still experiencing the same issue.
Btw, what possible amdgpu driver issue exists in 6.19? I’m trying to solve/catch a bug, but perhaps it is already known?

I didn’t say there was one, but I noticed that you were running 6.19, which is still very new.

Well, all I can say at this point is that manjaro-settings-manager still relies on qt5, and thus also on shared libraries from Plasma 5.

Perhaps there is some nasty bug in there somewhere that only you seem to have caught. I couldn’t say, because I don’t have any of the Manjaro GUI tools installed anymore. :man_shrugging:

I also notice from your inxi output that you’ve got two monitors attached, one of which uses HDMI. Is that the monitor where the problem occurs?

I’ve just tried reinstalling the package (sudo pacman -Syu manjaro-settings-manager), to be sure.
I still have the problem.

Oh. You’re onto something there! The problem happens on the DP monitor, but not on the HDMI one.

Reinstalling it won’t solve anything.

Try creating another user account, and see if the problem persists there as well.

In the new user account, the pop-up window displays properly on both screens.

In that case the problem is located within your home directory. Try cleaning out ~/.cache/ while completely logged out of Plasma — you have to do it from a tty while not logged into Plasma with either account — and look for any (potentially hidden) files or folders in your ~/.local/share and ~/.config/ pertaining to the Manjaro Settings Manager.

It is possible that the corruption is located in one of your Plasma-specific configuration files as well. I would therefore recommend renaming them with a .bak filename suffix and restoring them one by one to see which one causes the problem. Or, you could also replace them with the clean ones from the new user account.

You could compare the configuration files of both user accounts side by side, even, using kompare or a similar tool. That way you can easily spot the discrepancies, even though it will of course be a lot of work, considering how many configuration files there are in your home directory.

One possible cause of corruption could be the file ~/.config/Trolltech.conf. It’s a qt-related file, and it has been known to cause issues in the past.
