Polkit dialog freezes on authentication if screen was blanked before authenticating

You where on Gnome.
I was on Gnome.
Because:
you where on Gnome

I was on Gnome
so I could replicate what you said.

So I installed it into a VM.

Gnome is not what I normally use.
It was just for this very special purpose and occasion.

I was referring to manjaro-logs-helper …were you…

yes, I was - not only in this specific instance was I referring to a Gnome installation
…
yes, I was
I still am.

Yes, I saw the entire log. We already know why gkr-pam couldn’t unlock the keyring. It’s in the topic title.

One must manually unlock the keyring after login after opening any program that requires it. That doesn’t seem to apply here.

Sorry, that does not qualify as…

Either way, it seems this thread is still going nowhere as a @pjpreilly has unrealistic expectations about how Polkit should work. No, it’s not going to wait patiently while your screen is locked for you to come back hours or even a few minutes later. The dialog is designed to timeout for security. There’s no way around it.

Go ahead and create an upstream Pokit issue so they can tell you the same thing–albeit with possibly more info regarding the inner workings. However, I do not recommend doing so as it would be a waste of time for everyone involved.

so it works in gnome on a vm…

Or maybe it just works, and you need to figure out why it doesn’t for you, maybe it is PEBCAK.

Nahhhh

Yeah, I’m good…I’m a user with a workaround…

Fair enough. However, this thread has gone on for so long I don’t know what workaround you might be talking about. If it was already mentioned above, please mark that post as the solution :white_check_mark:.

I did but I didn’t actually test…

Well, test then. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Of course it will work, it keeps the screen on. However, since you’re using GNOME, I suggest gnome-shell-extension-caffeine instead of caffeine-ng.

@Yochanan if you say it’ll work…well that’s good ENOUGH for me…
