Plasmashell 6.4.0 crashes

Plasmashell crashes, after some analysis I discovered that the system tray is to blame. I have deactivated programs at startup such as insync and nextcloud, but it still crashes if I add the system tray.

Also kickoff gives me this error:

file:///usr/share/plasma/plasmoids/org.kde.plasma.kickoff/contents/ui/main.qml:69:9: Cannot assign to non-existent property “highlightNewlyInstalledApps”

Does anyone experience the same problem? Suggestions?

it’s worth a try to ask in the plasma/kde-forum

Yes I did

Wayland or X11? Please read the update announcement regarding manually Interventions needed when x11 is uswd.

Both Wayland and X11

you can try the following to test if it’s a problem from plasma or your individual config.
create a new user in your system and login as this test-user. it will start with a “fresh” configuration. check if the problem is still occuring or if it disappeared.

Thank you, I solved it. The problem was the failure to update the plasma-workspace package.

I run on a Plasma 6.4 synced at 2025-06-20T13:55:00Z with no issues at all.

Please check if you are running some incompatible settings from a theme, a plasmoid - anything that is not updated to latest Plasma release.

@Guiodic: You have posted the same issue in the Arch forum!

Asking in two¨ three different forums for help with problems which were caused by a partial update is rather embarrassing.
Asking the same question in multiple forums (and without linking them) is also quite the waste of community-helper resources and considered bad manners.

Why you care of that?

Please see this in [Unstable Update] June 2025 - #48 by philm and the preceeding comment.

Please remember that partial updates are unsupported - so one can only speculate why the plasma-workspace package was not synced.
