this only happens when i try to add a new widget from kde store

Have you tried other KDE themes.

I don’t remember the details how to choose, but either one of below:

  • Right click at desktop → Choose something like change theme (I don’t remember) → Choose other themes (click apply at right bottom).
  • In the start menu (Windows key), find something like “settings” to choose the KDE themes.

Maybe it’s actually the current theme that looks dark or some desktop color settings that make it darker.
