Plasma desktop keeps getting stuck after recent update

Hello there

After a recent system update (Sorry, don’t precisely know which ): ) plasma desktop keeps crashing. I usually notice this by my CPU indicator in my panel getting stuck, or other features like spectacle, the clock, clipboard menu or color picker not working either.
The issues resolve themselves after a minute or two. I haven’t noticed any pattern surrounding the hiccups, altough they do seem to occur somewhat more frequently under higher CPU loads, but still regularly under low load.
When resuming everything that happened in the mean time comes back, notifications, clipboard manager, etc.

I can’t find any relevant logs in journalctl, neither before nor after, so I’m unsure what to luck for.

Any help would be appreciated (:

Hello @scabby and welcome to the Manjaro Community! :vulcan_salute:

We currently have no proper system information to work with; a brief summary usually isn’t enough.

For us to provide advice or suggestions it will very likely help if you provide your full inxi output:

inxi -zv8

… please use the code formatting (the </> button at the top of the Reply window after highlighting the pasted Terminal output, or the three backticks ``` on lines above and below the pasted text).

Note: This output is privacy-filtered using the above command.

Hopefully the knowledgeable people on here will be able to assist, then.

Note: To me, it looks like it could be a memory issue at first glance. The inxi info will help to reveal if that’s likely the case.

Welcome to the forum! :vulcan_salute:

The two usual suspects — of which in this case I suspect the first one would apply, given that the issue naturally resolves itself — are…

  • The baloo file indexer, and especially so if you have it indexing not just the filenames, but also the file content. You can disable baloo or change what it indexes in the System Settings.

  • An incompatible theme or widget from a third-party source, such as store.kde.org.

I had this problem. It was happening when copying text from Firefox. To solve it, I disabled “Keep the Selection and Clipboard The Same” under the Clipboard Manager’s settings. It might be the same for you.
