Plasma adjust size of icons in Application Launcher

Hello,
I just updated with my Laptop yet, which used Wayland already.

Is there no option to adjust this Taskbar icon’s under Wayland?

Update: I have the exact same issue under X11 with my PC also.

I’d recommend starting a New Thread about this, and supply the information from inxi -zv8, and any other pertinent information with reference to the panels and the task bar. Also any scaling choices, that might potentially affect the icons.

I have 3 different computers here, 2 running the recent stable update, with KDE Plasma, and another running testing with KDE plasma, all on Wayland, and have noticed no icon size changes.

In addition the machine runing testing has 4 panels, and not seeing any issues.

If no one knows a quick solution, i think its better when i just open a Thread at KDE Forum directly and share the link after a solution here in this Forum.

Hitting the configuration option directly from the tray is next to impossible

  • rightclick the primary panel
  • show panel configuration
  • hover the tray
  • select configure

I was messing around there already, no icon size option for taskbar… or i can’t find it.

There is no explicit size parameter - that is correct - but you set it to scale with Panel Height

Screenshot

Then adjust your panel height - to e.g. 52

I think we have a little missunderstanding, i was talking about the Taskbar Menue, when i click and open it.

Im fine with the normal taskbar, but when i open it… the icon’s are smaller since the new KDE 6.5.3 Version.

You mean the application launcher ? If yes - I think you are correct - there is only alternatives - like the Application Dashboard

Yeah, i think we can also called application launcher, i guess.

I was calling it taskbar, since in Windows there was also never a difference between the Taskbar and Taskbar Menue (Application Launcher, how it called in KDE)… there was everything just the Traskbar.

From my experience the KDE devs, reduced the icon size in the Taskbar Menue but don’t gave us a option to adjust the size for the Icon’s.

I am sorry for confusing the subject - even when on Windows I saw it as distinct components each serving a specific purpose - probably just me

Windows Linux
Start Menu Application Launcher
Taskbar Task Panel
SysTray System Tray

Yes there was, I thought you were talking about the Task Panel, which KDE call the Task Manager.

I’m using the Application Dashboard, which is a full screen Menu, and I have noticed no changes in icon size.

When I get a chance I’ll fire up my media computer and check the Menu on that. But from memory nothing looked different.

There are several alternatives available.

Application Launcher
Application Menu
Application Dashboard

and you can install others.

Which one are you using? Right Mouse clicking on it’s icon will show it’s name , and the option to use a different one.

I actually switched today on my PC and yesterday where i wrote this on my Laptop.

So im 100% sure since i saw directly the smaller icon’s before and after the update, that its reduced from the new KDE 6.5.3 version on my second device.

I actually had here a screenshot from the Taskbar Menue/ Application Launcher, which i used on both devices because from another KDE (X11) bug which i had today with my PC:

I’m using Application Launcher on my Media computer (it’s running the latest version of stable). I see nothing odd.

Mind you I do not use any fancy transitions or Transparencies. So that may account for me not seeing this sort of thing.

Also My Partner’s machine is running Intel GPU, as is my Machine that is running testing, and I’m using the Open Source drivers on the old nVidia GPU that is on my Media machine, so I can use Wayland, and I don’t need any fancy nVidia related stuff anyway.

TBH for my bigger Display on my PC its just minor, its more a problem for my Laptop because of the small display, i guess.

Specially in the favourites the shortcuts vertical on the left side of the taskbar menue,
are easily reduced by 30%. Which is for my taste a little bid disturbing. Probably it will be more a problem with people with bad eyes.

It would be cool to have a option to have the old size (or just to have my own settings for my own taste).

Those are the Favorites, and if I’m not mistaken — don’t pin me down on this — then that’s a bug that will be fixed when the next Plasma update reaches Manjaro.

Okay i pin you down on this :stuck_out_tongue:

Jokes aside, thats good news, hopefully it will release in KDE 6.5.4 soon and manjaro role out all this desktop fixes to us soon.

and after Arch Linux have rolled out theirs…

Ah, the waiting game… isn’t it wonderful?

Let’s just be glad that we’re not on a point release distribution, and wanting all the shiny things… now!

Manjaro testing has Plasma 6.5.4. Stable will get it soon enough.

Well if KDE wouldn’t release a bug fest every 10 month, i wouldn’t mind waiting for a update at all (beside’s security updates).

But im even more glad that Philm delaying KDE 6.5.3 for so long… it looks to me that Manjaro is a semi-rolling or semi-point release, how ever we would call that and im happy about it.

I agree. It’s a shame many others don’t follow the same logic. :man_shrugging:
