Plasma 6 loads the CPU under a different user session

If there are other user profiles in the system besides the user created during installation, then in them processes plasmashell and kwin_wayland heavily load CPU, causing lags. Recently I needed a second user in the system, I created it and logging in under it immediately noticed that Plasma 6 lags wildly because the CPU is loaded with processes plasmashell (about 75%) and kwin-wayland (about 45%) and if you delete the directory ~/.config, the bacchanalia after a while calms down, but exactly until the next restart of the session of this user, no matter whether he is an admin or a regular user. Under X11 session the same story.
Has anyone noticed this? Is there any way to fix it or can it be a bug of Plasma 6 or distro? I have this behavior on both desktop and laptop, both with AMD hardware.
For clarity I’ll throw up a screen with CPU load:

Hi @McSeem and welcome to the Manjaro community.

I use AMD graphics exclusively but can’t comment on general AMD hardware. However, I’m sure someone with some insight will chime in when able.

In the meantime:

Your topic is confusing - a wall of text - it is difficult to understand.

Plasma uses the baloo indexer - and baloo has a reputation for being hard on the system.

Why would you remove the .config folder? The content is required for applications to function.

How do you login with the second user?

Are you trying to login multiple users to graphical session?

There is nothing that strikes as abnormal - in fact it looks quite normal

  • 6 threads idling
  • 7 threads minimal load
  • 3 threads around 50% load
  • 3G memory allocated

Baloo indexer does not load the CPU in any way, as can be seen from the above screenshot.
I deleted the config folder after the CPU load appeared in order to understand how Plasma would react to this.
Under the second user, I logged in as usual - via SDDM, one user to graphical session.
With such a load on the CPU, I get freezes when moving the mouse, slowdowns when launching applications and animation effects.
Under the first user, plasma and kwin_wayland load the CPU by no more than 5%

It seems (to me) you might as well create a new User account and trash the account you’re having issues with. Clearly, these issues are limited to that account.

There are potentially many causes, which likely reduce to something you have installed (as the User); rogue widget, for example; or have generally misconfigured; or that something messed up as a consequence of continued use and/or tweaking. :man_shrugging:
