Pipewire remixing channels from stereo to 5.1
Does not work. Something is missing. Firefox Youtube is still coming out of only front stereo speakers.
Also added the same changes to client.conf, but didn’t help either.
and just as instantly as I started to complain and ask help here (after struggling for many hours previously), I managed to find a solution myself… had to add also the property for:
channelmix.upmix-method = psd # none, simple, psd
because it seems to default to none = channels will not be copied at all, which I have not yet found in any documentation. Explanation of different methods are here though.
a totally not unrelated revelation and magical moment – my 2 years DEAD pavumeter started working again for 5.1 audio (somehow it did work for stereo and 4.0 and other speaker settings, but not for 5.1), after switching from native pulseaudio to pipewire + pipewire-pulse.
