Pipewire: cannot record from Monitor of built-in audio analog stereo

Hi, today I made the switch from pulseaudio to pipewire; everything seems to works fine (I had to change some personal bash scripts to manipulate audio I/O).

The last thing that I find no resolvable, which I was able to do with pulseaudio, is to record the audio output: while on pulseaudio, I was able to record any audio output, eg, by using the simple application audio-recorder and select, as audio source, Monitor of built-in audio analog stereo; now this entry is no longer available, despite the fact that in pavucontrol, Monitor of built-in audio analog stereo is still there and shows audio activity while I play any audio from any application.

So… There is another way or application for recording Monitor of built-in audio analog stereo ("record what I hear") with Pipewire?
I see that Pipewire is provided with the CLI utility pw-record, but I cannot figure out if/how is able to do what I need.

Yes: performs better on my old hardware - Ivy Bridge is from 2012, 2018 is the date of the motherboard’s firmware - (I tried newer kernels and I have slodowns/worst performance here and there) and 4.14 is LTS until 2024.

There have been reports of pipewire not being ready for release yet, so have you tried:

systemctl --user stop pipewire-pulse.service && systemctl --user stop pipewire.socket && systemctl --user stop pipewire.service

and not using it at all?

If this solves your problem, disable pipewire because the above does not survive a reboot…

The installation of pipewire and its related packages has removed all pulseaudio from my system; so if I stop all pipewire elements, I have no audio at all.
In anyway to make these commands survive to a reboot, there is the need to mask them, not simply stop.

Bu as I’ve said above, pipewire also caused no audio on resume after suspension: this is the reason why I switch back to pulseaudio.

Please elaborate: so your problem was solved by masking pipewire and installing pulseaudio again?

I summarize: I installed Manjaro on February 2019, and I always had Pulseaudio as audio backend; some day ago I’d wanted to try Pipewire, to see which improvemenst could bring.

I’ve executed pacman -S manjaro-pipewire which warned me to remove first pulseaudio-equalizer pulseaudio-jack pulseaudio-lirc pulseaudio-rtp pulseaudio-zeroconf pulseaudio pulseaudio-bluetooth then it has installed: gst-plugin-pipewire pipewire-alsa pipewire-jack pipewire-media-session pipewire-pulse manjaro-pipewire and has also removed pulseaudio-alsa then I rebooted, and obviously, without pulse packages, I only had pipewire as audio backend, but this has caused the inability to record from Monitor of built-in audio analog stereo and has also caused the issue reported on arch wiki: PipeWire - ArchWiki (Audio problems after standby - in my case no audio after resume)
For this reason I switch back to pulseaudio, but the main problem was that by using pipewire as only audio backend, I was totally unable to record from Monitor of built-in audio analog stereo.
