I can’t update manjaro successfully on pinebook pro. I end up with a blank screen and blinking cursor. I have tried KDE and XFCE running from SD drive.
Hi, I have been using pinebook Pro for a few years now and happy with it, except for the lack of sleep/resume which is a bummer, running XFCE for the first year and KDE after… Always from the EMMC. All was fine till an update a few weeks ago.
The pinebook Pro downloaded update and after reboot there is just a blank screen with blinking cursor.
Not knowing what to do I removed EMMC and flicked the switch, disabling boot from EMMC, so that I can at least work from SD.
I downloaded latest image XFCE for pinebook pro from manjaro website (which is labelled 23.02), wrote image with balenaEtcher on main LINUX machine to SD card successfully and pinebook is booting well from SD. Setup and reboot all works fine, but as soon as I then run an update, same thing happens.
It results in a blank screen with blinking cursor. Ctrl-F2 had no effect.
I removed SD, burned image of KDE (also labelled 23.02) on it instead and again, the pinebook pro runs fine initially. I then perform update step by step this time, and noticed that once the "Linux-update… bladibla file gets downloaded, which is about 350MB and reboot happens, I am back at the blank screen with blinking cursor.
I then downloaded PostMarketOS and that work like a treat from the SD. I am now using PMOS as manjaro simply doesn’t work on my pinebook pro anymore.
So, my question: is something going wrong for more people when they try to update pinebook pro running any manjaro?
And if this isn’t the general experience, why am I experiencing this? I can’t update manjaro successfully on pinebook pro. I end up with a blank screen and blinking cursor. I have tried KDE and XFCE running from SD drive.
