I have never seen such a message in linux. A wild guess would be that you set a resolution which your screen can not handle. This message must come from the monitor itself.
What worked for me was connecting the PC to a TV, installing autorandr and adding “autorandr -c > /dev/null 2>&1” to ~/.bashrc. You will have to wait until the PC boots but then HDMI output should would on your monitor.
