Pavucontrol HDMI output profile unavailable, No HDMI Audio

Problem:

I’ve just managed to connect my laptop to my TV via HDMI yesterday, but there’s no sound output from my TV.

What I’ve tried:

  1. I’ve looked in the sound settings but my laptop doesn’t recognise a HDMI sound output at all
  2. I’ve fiddled with alsamixer but it didn’t help.
  3. Tried changing profile in pavucontrol to [Digital Stereo HDMI output + Analog Stereo] but it is says it’s unavailable. (Infact all the HDMI profiles show unavailable).
  4. Tried killing and restarting pulseaudio using pulseaudio -k, and rebooted several times.
  5. Looked around in the forum but didn’t find anything that could help.
