Password prompt missing in lock screen after automatic lock

Hi,
since the recent update to NVidia driver 570.xx I have problems unlocking my screen after an automatic screen lock (after inactivity) because the password prompt is missing.

Two weeks ago I still could blindly type my password which then would take 20-30 seconds and a few automatic screen on/off toggles to finally unlock the screen. This is not working anymore. Even after blindly typing the password the screen remains locked.
This only happens when running Plasma in X11 but not when running Wayland. But since Wayland has other problems I would like to keep using X11.

What I have tried so far:

  • remove custom background from lockscreen
  • switch SDDM/lockscreen theme to other options
  • test with Wayland (no lockscreen issue here)
  • test with manually locking the screen (no issue, password prompt shows up as expected)
  • deleted ~/.cache/* and ~/.Xauthority
  • ensured that I have a swap partition enabled
  • checked /var/log/Xorg.0.log (no errors or warnings)

Try kernel 6.6.
I had the same problem, and switching to kernel 6.6 was my solution.

Ok. I will try that. It is still installed.
Update: Same problem with Kernel 6.6

Update 2: It is even worse than I thought. I have now set the lockscreen to not require a password after “locking” the screen but end up with the same result. When the screen goes black after the idle time, moving the mouse shows the lockscreen, no password prompt, but there’s no way to get back to the desktop…
