Pamac Gui updates acting strangely

True, unless the OP reinstalls the old version (probably not recommended, though). Although as a disclaimer, I haven’t used Cinnamon in years and as a KDE user, I’m not all that familiar with GTK stuff.

Update: No, it’s still doing the same thing with the new Pamac. Also, I’m sure in the past that Pamac would check automatically for updates shortly after I logged in, but it doesn’t seem to do that anymore either.

That works. Check the settings, the conf file and if the service and the tray app are running and in the startup apps.

The tray icon is displayed and is listed in Startup Applications.

What conf file do I need to look at?

In the Preferences tab, Check for Updates is selected and Check Frequency is every 6 hours.

Just reminding that OP is on Unstable, using pamac-gtk 10.7.0-1 and (I assume) libpamac 11.7.0-1. Both of these packages appear to have received recent updates, and bugs are a possibility.

Sorry, i didn’t notice that we are talking about unstable. I am on stable.

There is no evidence of a bug yet, just another allegation of an issue

Pacman works but pamac is giving out error - #4 by manjbob
Pamac is currently broken. Hopefully it will be fixed soon

If OP is on Unstable branch they could either downgrade pamac packages or switch to Testing/Stable branch and downgrade all packages

sudo pacman -Syuu

Problems with pamac are not DE-specific.
Aside from theming I dont believe they ever have been.
(maybe specific issues with specific notifiers though?)

OK, I downgraded pamac-gtk3 to 10.6. I now get the updates notification back again when I first log in - yay! - but Pamac just crashes as soon as I click the Updates tab.

(I couldn’t downgrade pamac-gtk as it complained it couldn’t find the corresponding pamac-cli file. I think this was version 10.5.)

I’m on cinnamon unstable and don’t have any problems with pamac-gtk3
By the the way pamac-gtk looks horrible on cinnamon as gtk4 isn’t fully integrated.

Hi @robin0800 I recently got Pamac-gtk looking good on Cinnamon. I even got the installer on the ISO to go dark theme! I will make a quick tutorial this weekend.

If it is the env variable for advaita theme, it is not supposed to be used in production. Might have sideffects or stop working at some point.

After playing around with this for a while, the issue seems to be that the refresh button just isn’t doing anything any more. In the past it would take a few seconds of checking before showing any updates or otherwise saying ‘Your system is up to date’; but now that message appears almost immediately. It’s only when I close the window and then click on the tray icon again that it forces it to show new updates.
