From what I’ve been reading (years-old threads, though) it seems the password authentication timeout is hard-coded within Polkit, or at least it was back then.

I understand the basic idea of why it doesn’t run the actual processes as root. I have no complaints there. The real problem is that it will ask your password and then on long updates (especially with build processes) you can’t necessarily sit there watching it the whole time.
