I have this model link

It should be capable to drive 4 monitors. But the second monitor which is connected via DVI has a flickering issue. Both are connceted via a DVI-D Dual-Link cable. It switches between showing the picture and a black screen. After some time it stops but then the resolution has dropped to 1920x1080 even if KDE says it’s still 2560x1440. I have tried to search in the internet if someone has the same problem but I couldn’t find anything useful or what could be the cause. I don’t think it a hardware problem. If I put in a additional second AMD card (RX 460) and connect 3 monitors via it and one via the RX 470, I have still this issue but much lesser. So I think it’s have something to do with a software issue, but I don’t know which one. Maybe someone here has an idea, what I could check. And it seems when I reduce the resolution to 1920x1080 the behavior doesn’t appear.

Ok I did a video to show you what I mean and when it’s worst it’s like I described.

Flickering Monitor

Can you test:

  • Try switching from DVI to HDMI.
  • This monitor connects with RX470.

Can’t the RX 470 has only 1 Displayport, 1 HDMI and 2 DVI connectors.

You use 4 monitors using two GPUs:

Do you mean:
Before:

  • Connections of RX 460:

    • DVI-D : Monitor A has this issue.
    • HDMI: Monitor B, no issue.
    • DisplayPort:
  • Connections of RX 470:

    • DVI-D : Monitor C, no issue.
    • DVI-D:
    • HDMI:
    • DisplayPort: Main Monitor, no issue.

After:
You try to change:

  • Connections of RX 460:

    • DVI-D :
    • HDMI: Monitor B, no issue.
    • DisplayPort:
  • Connections of RX 470:

    • DVI-D : Monitor C, no issue.
    • DVI-D:
    • HDMI: Monitor A ← Does it work?
    • DisplayPort: Main Monitor, no issue.

There are many possible changes of port connection.

If different ports have the same issue with monitor A, this means that this monitor has the problem, not software’s issue.

No I think there is an missunderstanding.

I want to use only the RX 470:

Monitor A → Displayport
Monitor B → HDMI
Monitor C → DVI 1
Monitor D → DVI 2

But Monitor D can’t be used with full resolution and shows the behavior in linked video.

What work when I use RX 470 and RX 460 together:

Monitor A → Displayport RX 460
Monitor B → Displayport RX 470
Monitor C → HDMI RX 460
Monitor D → DVI RX 460

All monitors can be used with full reslotuion.

So I want to figure out why Monitor D can’t be used with full resolution when I use the RX 470 only. Is there a software issue or maybe a hardware limitation after all? I couldn’t find an answer so far. AMDs information about Eyefinity are very limited. I think there should be no hardware limitation. So maybe someone have an idea here how to figure out if it is a software issue.

Did you try to switch two monitors C and D with RX470?

Monitor D → DVI 1
Monitor C → DVI 2

what happens it?

Remove monitor B:

Monitor A → Displayport
Monitor C → DVI 1
Monitor D → DVI 2

What happens it?

Did you mean:

Monitor A → Displayport RX 460
Monitor B → Displayport RX 470
Monitor C → DVI 1 RX 470
Monitor D → DVI 2 RX 470

?

When I remove Monitor B using only the RX 470 results in the same behavior.

I mean:

Monitor A → Displayport
Monitor B → HDMI
Monitor D → DVI 1
Monitor C → DVI 2
All connect with RX 470 (Only monitor C and D are exchanged.).

Ok same behavior too.

Monitor D is probably defective.

One last try:

Monitor A → Displayport
Monitor D → HDMI
Monitor C → DVI 1

All connect with RX 470

If Monitor D has the same issue, it is indeed damaged.
If no, the port DVI-D of monitor D is damaged.

With HDMI I get full resolution in Monitor D. I checked it also with my laptop via HDMI
and I have full resolution too. I have a DVI to HDMI adapter I tried to with Monitor D but it seems it isn’t a proper adapter (it seems to support only 1920x1080).

What I also tried.

RX 470
Monitor A → Displayport
Monitor B → HDMI
Monitor C → DVI

RX460
Monitor D → DVI

Same behavior. But when I change

RX 470
Monitor A → Displayport
Monitor B → HDMI
Monitor C → DVI

RX460
Monitor D → HDMI

I have full resolution on all monitors.
What I want to test now is to buy a proper DVI to HDMI adapter to connect Monitor D with it at the RX 470.

Ok I couldn’t find a proper adapter so I changed the configuration into:

Monitor A → Displayport RX 470
Monitor B → DVI 2 RX 470
Monitor C → DVI 1 RX 470
Monitor D → HDMI RX 470

And it works fine so far. So it seems indeed Monitor D has a problem with its DVI connector.
