OBS is unloaded from memory (does not work)

Hello, friends. For some reason, OBS stopped working.
After starting the program and selecting the PipeWare source, the program simply unloads from memory.
I tried using ChatGPT to solve the issue. I reinstalled and cleaned the program folder (settings), but nothing helps.
This problem has been observed for more than a month. I hoped that everything would be fixed in the next updates, but I still encounter this error.
Could you tell me what is wrong.
The problem began to be observed after the next system update about 2 months ago.
A search on the forum did not yield any results (I have not encountered a similar problem). The logs are also not very informative.

That is the very last thing you should try - certainly not a preference.

ā€¦ youā€™ll likely to be to provide some usable info without the ā€œhelpā€ of the AI ā€¦

Iā€™ll stop here - instead of going onto a rant and actually explaining stuff ā€¦

(the manual pages and info pages as well can always provide ā€¦ very good info on the subject matter.)

Cheers!

ignore the freaking ā€œAIā€ - donā€™t even ask for itā€™s opinion ā€¦
itā€™s solution is wrong 99% of the time ā€¦

you can get lucky - but you never know whether you did.

ā€¦ You are asking for a draw - and then rely on the outcome of that draw.

We generally donā€™t simply assume a ā€˜problemā€™ can be fixed with an update unless that problem is something wrong with the basic system (which would tend to generate responses in the update thread, or elsewhere in the forum).

Also, leaving an issue for 2 months isnā€™t the best method of fixing it - you could first try, for example, creating a new user account to see if the problem persists.

The thing is, I use two Linux Manjaro OS on different SSDs. They were installed six months apart. They have different software. One for work, the other for everything else. But this problem appeared on both at the same time.

I canā€™t see this option for source selection!

I was going to try it but I see only PulseAudio for some reasonā€¦ though Iā€™m using Pipewire with Wireplumber.

Can you check if you have manjaro-pipewire installed? it handled everything for me.

Also, itā€™s a good idea to try a new USER for a default desktop setup.

Ok, Iā€™m lost hereā€¦

I installed OBS, enabled:

  • Display Capture (XSHM)
  • Audio Capture Device (ALSA)

Recorded me opening and closing Strawberry and playing music, no issues.

I I canā€™t get any video through the video Capture Device (Pipewire) and donā€™t even know what thatā€™s useful forā€¦ however, Iā€™m running X11 right now if thatā€™s relevant.

Ok, so I logged out and went to Wayland.

I added Screen Capture (Pipewire) and Audio Capture Device (ALSA) and that worked perfectly too.

I created a new user. And Iā€™ll try to run OBS:

Youā€™ve messed something up. Maybe try purging OBS, manually checking/removing the /usr/binā€¦/share/obs directories too.

I tried to find and delete everything related to OBS, then reinstalled it. But after selecting the video source (pipewire), the program still closes.

Try with a new user. It can help you narrow down the cause if it works for the new userā€¦

Edit:

How?

This woknā€™t make any difference if the issue is in your home directory.

So no difference, then? Just confirms that the problem seems to be in your home directory.

Yes, I asked for confirmation (i.e. Create a NEW USER and repeat) a while back.

Did you, by any chance, try this:

rm -rvdI ~/.config/obs-studio

it didnā€™t help

Since no easy solution can be expected now,

I tried to run the program via sudo.
To my surprise, I did not find an item with PipeWire when creating a source, but only with XSHM.
When adding this source, the program only captures the mouse cursor when it is over it. No other data gets into the capture area.
This is very sad, because I often record video courses. And what to do is hard to say.
I tried updating the Linux kernel, started with a new kernel. But this also did not give a result.

I managed to set up only window capture. But I need to capture not only the browser, but also, for example, Code OSS. Any ideas, guys?

The first screenshot is without sudo.
The second one is with sudo.
