Nvidia RTX 3050 Freezing - DELL G15 5530

I am running Manjaro XFCE edition in a Nvidia RTX 3050 DELL G15 5530 Laptop.

I use Linux for my research. Not a newbie, but a kind of limited in my technical skills.

  • My computer has frozen occasionally using Kernel 6.1.112-1 or 6.6.54-2
    • I am sticking with 6.1.112-1
  • My computer does not start properly or freezes much more frequently using 6.10.13-3

Here is the results of a inxi -Farz. Please let me know if you need anything else.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks a lot!

Hi!

Recently I bought a Dell g15 5530 with the 4050 gpu and I also have a lot of issues regarding the Nvidia proprietary drivers.

I am not a Manjaro user as I rather prefer Nixos but considering that I saw no answer to your question I decided to give you a few suggestions.

With my current hardware, I can only use the proprietary drivers from Nvidia with the kernel version up to the last LTS branch (version 6.6), otherwise the screen freezes every time a few seconds in after entering the Plasma session.

It doesn’t matter if it is using Xorg or Wayland, nor the Desktop Environment.
Also, blacklisting the Nouveau drivers has no effect when using the proprietary drivers.

Interesting enough is that I found comments on Reddit saying that other notebooks with the same specs showed no similar issues, therefore is likely an issue with Dell (both 3050 and 4050 versions regardless of CPU).

An alternative that I accepted is to use the open-source nvidia kernel modules (not the Nouveau drivers), with this option I could install the most recent kernel version without any issue.

There were no major difference in gaming performance, at least with the ones I observed.

About Manjaro, I don’t know how you can install the opensource modules but considering the same Arch base you might be able to follow the wiki instructions.

Fan broken or not running? Other hardware issue within the cooling system? Clean-out needed?
