NVIDIA AD107M [GeForce RTX 4050] not working properly. freezes and hangs

hello, i just installed manjaro linux this week. before that i tried zorin os but i encountered similar screen slowdowns and stuttering. i was a windows user until today. my system was working very well, i had no freezes, no problems while in windows. but i got tired of the constant purchase and subscription systems of the windows operating system. i found the community structure and open source systems of linux very close to me. so i decided to use linux. but i am really new here. Anyway, my problem is that my system slows down a lot when I open the map, when I connect multiple screens with HDMI, my system slows down a lot, stutters. I think the problem is that the video card is nvidia, from what I’ve read on the forums, nvidia video cards generally have problems. as a result I’m experiencing slowdowns and stuttering in my system. I’m trying to use the terminal, but I can’t say I’m very good at it. Actually, before I wrote a new post, I tried to read and fix the problems that other people were having. I did all the updates. I installed the latest driver. But I couldn’t find my problem.

thank you.

There is some tuning to do with nvidia cards. Maybe this link gives you some ideas what to look for. Also google arch + nvidia. Manjaro + nvidia.

On my system I recognize stuttering, when I use X11 instead of Wayland.
I also have a Nvidia card and use the nouveau driver.

Thank you, it is a long and complicated article for me. if I can read and understand it, I will try.

this article is very difficult to understand for me. Is there any other way to do these settings changes? or any other solution method?

Part of the problem is that on Manjaro stable and testing branches is slightly behind (using older nvidia drivers), you have a newer card so you would benefit using the latest driver available.

For example I have a 4070 Ti Super and I use the nvidia open driver 570.124.04 that’s only avaiable in the unstable repository and it’s working quite well for me. With the latest driver several bugs have been fixed.

thank you, but i don’t know how can i download this new driver. I found repository in github
here is the link;
https://github.com/NVIDIA/nvidia-settings/commit/6c755d9304bf4761f2b131f0687f0ebd1fcf7cd4

ı trid to use terminal to clone this code, I got helped from chatgpt but ı couldnt manage to get it. I
dont know how to use terminal, sorry.
What should i do?

Switch branches

sudo pacman-mirrors --api --set-branch unstable

Run a full system sync

sudo pacman -Syu

This will bring possibility of using the newer driver 570xx - if you want the open driver - assuming your kernel is linux 6.12

sudo pacman -Syu linux612-nvidia-open

Just adding to @linux-aarhus it’s a really bad idea to use NVIDIA drivers downloaded outside the Manjaro repositories unless you are extremely well versed in how Manjaro handles these drivers. Using the ones provided by Manjaro ensures they’re properly install/integrated.

as a result, I installed the nvidia 570 version, again with help from chat gpt.

but now when I run the nvidia-smi command;

NVIDIA-SMI has failed because it couldn't communicate with the NVIDIA driver. Make sure that the latest NVIDIA driver is installed and running.

I get this answer.

Can you check if I downloaded something wrong?

inxi -G command

I am getting this result as a result of various arrangements. But I open counter strike. the system crashes and freezes before starting the game. Now using Manjaro has done more harm than good for me. I am very tired. Is there an easier and compatible linux distribution available? If linuxes with nvidia video cards are always like this, I think I’ll go back to windows. I can’t run counter strike on such a powerful computer. I’ve been trying to figure it out for a week. I don’t know what to do with manjaro system.

Thank you, everyone. There was a lot of improvement in my system. The thing I learnt the most in this process is that you optimise the linux system yourself. you don’t get everything ready for your mouth like windows. instead you make a virtual collective effort with people who have similar problems with you. Likewise, I learnt a lot while trying to find and fix bugs in my system. I’m still using manjaro and I’m starting to like it, but I’ve worked really hard in these two weeks. I’m no longer afraid of the terminal and I appreciate the simplicity and user-friendliness of this system. I’m also happy that my privacy is protected. Of course, all my problems are not completely solved, but now I realise that it can be better if I make an effort and work on it. Before I didn’t know how to crawl, I had no idea what to do if something went wrong with my computer. Using a computer has turned into a field that requires not only to get things done but also to be interested in that subject.

Thank you :honeybee:
