Nvidia 560 Driver

Now that 560 has been released as stable, will Manjaro jettison the 555 that’s been in testing for seemingly forever and giving users troubles (eg, moving it from Testing back to unstable) and push ahead with testing 560?

Did you mean 550?

The NVIDIA New Feature Branch series was just updated from 555 to 560 in the Manjaro Unstable branch.

The NVIDIA Production Branch is currently the 550 series in the Manjaro Testing and Stable branches.

Thanks for your reply. That’s good news I would think. I guess 555 was the testing ground for explicit sync and 560 is an evolution of that. Although perhaps 560 is a little bit of a testing ground too in terms of it being the first open-source kernel module as default but hopefully the testing done for the last two years in that space has it functioning well.

Hehe, your winky suggests you probably realise this but for anyone reading I mean 555 but I meant testing in general terms rather than the specific testing repo.

Actually, no. I thought you meant the current driver in the Manjaro Testing branch.

Honestly, I had trouble understanding what you were talking about to begin with.

Either way, I hope I was able to help answer your question.

Yep that answered the question. Summary: Manjaro seems to be skipping 555 to focus on 560.

I was simply saying that testers found 555 problematic and is it better to just skip it and catch up a bit with trying 560.

I see. Well, there have been a lot of issues with the 555 series that seemed to have been resolved with the 560 series. It’s quite nice to see NVIDIA is spending so much time listening to user feedback and fixing bugs lately.

Tidying things up before they completely exit the GPU chip business so they can focus solely on AI chips?

That kind of speculation is a bit off-topic for this thread. However, feel free to create a topic in the Member Hub if you’d like to discuss things like that.
