Maybe not specifically a “known problem”, but certainly the more distance that exists between orders of technology, the greater is the likelihood that they won’t play well together.
Nvidia’s support for the GeForce GT 430 ended with their driver version 390.157
in December, 2022. The driver was old then, and the GeForce 400 series cards were significantly older, still.
I still have a GeForce GT 440 (390xx
) and a GeForce GTX 660 (470xx
). The GTX 660 performs as well as an old Nvidia card ever can (on a 15 y/o system) but the GT 440 may as well be a paperweight;
in fact, I think it is.
My opinion is that an older kernel – such as Kernel 6.6 (LTS), or perhaps Kernel 6.1 (LTS) – might produce marginally better results, but you might ultimately be better served with a newer card. - AMD RX 580/590, for example.
It’s also possible that other variables might be in play;.

Welcome to the Manjaro community
As a new or infrequent forum user, please take some time to familiarise yourself with Forum requirements, and the many ways to use the forum to your benefit:
Update Announcements
The Update Announcements contain important information and a Known Issues and Solutions section that should generally be checked before posting a request for support.
System Information
While information from *-fetch
type apps might be fine for someone wishing to buy your computer, for Support purposes it’s better to ask your system directly;
Output of the inxi
command with appropriate parameters will achieve this (naturally, formatted according to forum guidelines) and will generally be more useful for those wishing to help:
inxi --filter --verbosity=8
or the short form:
inxi -zv8c0
- inxi man pages (Arch Manual)
Be prepared to provide output from other commands whenever asked. It’s equally important to provide as much actionable information as possible in your first post, rather than simply indicating there is a problem.
