Hi everyone,
Ever since a specific update few months ago, my notifications appear on the center of the screen
I’ve changed the notification position from the settings too, but it doesnt work at all. Thats why I decided to post this question.
Here are some patterns I see with this bug/ problem
The notification appears on the intended position after reboot. But the notifications start to appear on the middle when
I turn off the monitor using the power button there
The screen turns off after long period of inactivity (power saving)
and intrestingly, The position resets when I change the resolution from display settings . So to reset the position, I normally change the resolution and revert the change. But It is a bit cumbersome to do it again and again.
It feels like my notification’s sense of mapping on the monitor gets somehow messed up after the screen turns off and it gets normal when we change the resolution
Status : So based on bg405’s findings, looks this bug is being looked upon by kde team, so let’s wait it out
found a temporary fix from the forum

Hi, the first thing I’d do is create a fresh (test) user account and see if it happens there.
There’s probably something in your ~/.cache or ~/.config which is causing this. I’ve had similar happen before.
Do you have any custom window sizes and/or positions set?
System Settings → Window Management → Window Rules
… try removing any which appear in the box on the right. You might need to log out and back in, though I don’t recall having to.

Hi @BG405 Thanks for the reply
I followed what you said by creating a new test user, but the same problem persists over there
and I checked the windows rules, but there arent any rules there
PS: nice profile picture btw

That’s odd then. Are you using x11 or Wayland? It might be better under Wayland if you aren’t already using it. I’ve found it works better for a number of people on here.
A bit more system info might help anyone who sees this thread though:
inxi -zv8
Cheers!
P.S. The avatar was made using GIMP. FOSS to the rescue!

Operating System: Manjaro Linux
KDE Plasma Version: 6.0.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.4.0
Qt Version: 6.7.2
Kernel Version: 6.10.3-1-MANJARO (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: X11
Processors: 16 × AMD Ryzen 7 5700G with Radeon Graphics
Memory: 15.5 GiB of RAM
I’m also facing same issue.
The notification would normally start on bottom right (my designated area), but after the same trigger:
Justin47:
I turn off the monitor using the power button there
The screen turns off after long period of inactivity (power saving)
the notifications would jump to bottom center.
I have performed 2 fresh installations, and the issue persists.
In addition, my Taskbar Panel which is set to bottom right, will also run out of screen area, when same triggers fire.
The result is: my right most icon on the Panel cannot be clicked - it is moved out of screen area.

This leads me to think it’s a bug in Plasma 6.05; maybe this will be fixed when we receive the 6.1 upgrade. I know there are still plenty of fixes needed first, though.

Looks like we are on the same boat wind77

In addition, my Taskbar Panel which is set to bottom right, will also run out of screen area, when same triggers fire.
The result is: my right most icon on the Panel cannot be clicked - it is moved out of screen area.
regarding the taskbar problem, I turned off floating style by right clicking on the taskbar and selecting > enter edit mode > toggle style floating off
You are really resourceful
I see… I can wait, So i can wait for the fix
furthermore … its not a huge issue, So, lets wait it out

I have turned off floating for my Taskbar Panel right after installation.
So this issue is not related to floating.

I see, Not a fan of floating taskbar ?
Btw, I looked into the bug form of kde which our friend bg405 posted and I saw a temporary fix involving Kscreen2 which worked for me
The solution for some people there has been to disable Kscreen2 found at:
Settings → System → Session → Background Services
I tried this myself and now that bug is fixed…
Reply’s Link
this worked for me, check if this works for you
should turn on kscreen2 after the bug gets fixed

After 1 day of testing, seems this works for me as well.
Thank you!

From what I’ve read so far it appears only to affect x11, not Wayland. Since you’re using AMD graphics, using Wayland shouldn’t present any significant issues?

Be sure then to create a shell alias or function for bringing up the page with the Plasma background services, because as of Plasma 6.1, this page will no longer be available via the System Settings .
alias kcmservices='kcmshell6 kcm_kded &> /dev/null`
