No Taskbar, Icons, or Menu after failed update and disk cleaning

I am seeking assistance with a broken Manjaro KDE desktop environment where the Plasma shell fails to load properly after login, leaving me with no taskbar, wallpaper, icons, or access to the application menu via the Super (Windows) key.

The sequence of events began during a system update that threw an “Authentication key failed” error. Suspecting the issue was caused by low storage, I ran a disk space cleaner to remove files (and I worry I may have inadvertently deleted something important), but the system became unresponsive, forcing me to restart.

Currently, I can access Konsole and launch applications from the terminal, and I have even successfully completed the full update via the command line since the reboot, but the GUI elements remain missing. I can provide specific logs if necessary and would appreciate any guidance on how to reset or restore the Plasma shell without a full reinstall.

The quickest — albeit not exactly least painful — way of getting back to a working desktop is to rename your ~/.config and ~/.local directories with a .bak suffix while not logged into the GUI, and to then log into the GUI again. This should restore all of your settings to the Plasma defaults.
