No sound over HDMI on Samsun TV, image OK

Hi all,

I’m asking for help as I’m not familiar with hardware/system issue.
I’m using Manjaro with KDE all up to date on a Lenovo Thinkpad 14.
Sound is working normally on the laptop, but when I connect it to my Samsung TV (bought in ~2010) via HDMI the image is OK but the sound still comes out of the laptop.
It’s working fine on my external screen at work via hdmi using linux. Also image and sound are both OK on windows with the same TV.

The only thing I tried so far is installing manjaro-pipewire, hoping for a miracle but nothing so far.
Below you can see the result of inxi -Gza , also nothing is showing in KDE Audio System Settings (even with show inactives devices checked).
Let me know which command output would be needed to have more information and a possible solution.
Thanks a lot !

inxi -Gza

Samsung TV ? I hate them as my neighbour has a Samsung TV and this device is bluetooth related and this guy left the settings without set-up. this device wants to connect to everything and everyone in standard-setup. please check the manual and settings of your tv first.

Screenshot of audio controls in post #1 is showing only one available Profile: Off for Renoir Radeon audio device
This is consistent with an HDMI audio issue reported on Arch forum for kernel v6.1.1
[SOLVED] No profile available for HDMI audio / Multimedia and Games / Arch Linux Forums

I also found this news report earlier today
A Fix Is On The Way For AMD HDMI Audio Being Broken With Linux 6.1+ - Phoronix
I installed kernel v6.1.2 from testing branch and all the usual HDMI output Profiles for onboard audio (AMD Azalia) and nVidia GPU are present, same as any previous kernel

So I expect HDMI audio will be working again when kernel v6.1.2 is released to stable branch
but HDMI audio is confirmed by Arch user to be working on kernel v6.0

Thanks for your input but this is an old Samsung TV that doesn’t have Bluetooth, not sure the manual would have helped as its working fine under windows and is most likely due to how the audio is managed under linux

It never worked with kernel 6.0 or previous 5.x but I didn’t installed manjaro-pipewire at that time !
I just reboot under 6.0 and it’s working ! Thanks for your research ! Pipewire must have solved my old problem but unfortunately like you said it broke on 6.1.
I’ll wait for a fix in 6.1.2 and in the meantime boot on 6.0 when I want to use the TV.

Thanks again !
